چکیده

Since its founding, NASA has been dedicated to the advancement of aeronautics and space science. The NASA Scientiic and Technical Information (STI) Program OOce plays a key part in helping NASA maintain this important role. The NASA STI Program OOce is operated by Langley Research Center, the lead center for NASA's scientiic and technical information. The NASA STI Program OOce provides access to the NASA STI Database, the largest collection of aeronautical and space science STI in the world. The Program OOce is also NASA's institutional mechanism for disseminating the results of its research and development activities. These results are published by NASA in the NASA STI Report Series, which includes the following report types: TECHNICAL PUBLICATION. Reports of completed research or a major signiicant phase of research that present the results of NASA programs and include extensive data or theoretical analysis. Includes compilations of signiicant scientiic and technical data and information deemed to be of continuing reference value. NASA counterpart and peer-reviewed formal professional papers, but having less stringent limitations on manuscript length and extent of graphic presentations. Scientiic and technical ndings that are preliminary or of specialized interest, e.g., quick release reports, working papers, and bibliographies that contain minimal annotation. Does not contain extensive analysis. CONTRACTOR REPORT. Scientiic and technical ndings by NASA-sponsored contractors and grantees. CONFERENCE PUBLICATION. Collected papers from scientiic and technical conferences, symposia, seminars, or other meetings sponsored or co-sponsored by NASA.language translations of foreign scientiic and technical material pertinent to NASA's mission. Specialized services that complement the STI Program OOce's diverse ooerings include creating custom thesauri, building customized databases, organizing and publishing research results.. . even providing videos. Abstract This report details calculations for the McDonnell-Douglas 30P/30N and the NHLP-2D three-element highlift conngurations. Calculations were performed with the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes code ISAAC to study the eeects of various numerical issues on high lift predictions. These issues include the eeect of numerical accuracy on the advection terms of the turbulence equations, Navier-Stokes versus the thin-layer Navier-Stokes approximation , an alternative formulation of the production term, and the performance of several turbulence models. The eeect of the transition location on the NHLP-2D ow solution was investigated. Two empirical transition models were used to estimate the transition location.

Sensor-based computation of transitional flows using wall-modeled large eddy simulation

To be applicable to complex aerodynamic flows at realistic Reynolds numbers, large eddy simulation (LES) must be combined with a model for the inner part of the boundary layer. Aerodynamic flows are, in general, very sensitive to the location of boundary layer transition. While traditional LES can predict the transition location and process accurately, existing wall-modeled LES approaches can n...

Numerical Predictions of Turbulent Mixed Convection Heat Transfer to Supercritical Fluids Using Various Low Reynolds Number k-e Turbulence Models

There are a number of systems in which supercritical cryogenic fluids are used as coolants or propellant fluids. In some modern military aircraft, the fuel is pressurized above its critical point and used as a coolant to remove heat from the aircraft engine. Accurate prediction of heat transfer coefficients to turbulent flows of supercritical fluids is essential in design of such systems. One o...

Simulation of flow pattern in intake by using a numerical model

Lateral intake is a structure constructed next to a main channel to divert part of the flow within the channel. The separated area of the flow in the entrance of intake channel has no effect on flow discharge while reduces the effective cross-sectional area of the intake, as well as the bed load, which enters the intake due to low velocity flow deposits in this area. Thus, knowing the dimension...

Experimental study and numerical simulation of three dimensional two phase impinging jet flow using anisotropic turbulence model

Hydrodynamic of a turbulent impinging jet on a flat plate has been studied experimentally and numerically. Experiments were conducted for the Reynolds number range of 72000 to 102000 and a fixed jet-to-plate dimensionless distance of H/d=3.5. Based on the experimental setup, a multi-phase numerical model was simulated to predict flow properties of impinging jets using two turbulent models. Mesh...

Numerical Modeling of Saline Gravity Currents Using EARSM and Buoyant k- Turbulence Closures

Gravity currents are very common in nature and may appear in rivers, lakes, oceans, and the atmosphere. They are produced by the buoyant forces interacting between fluids of different densities and may introduce sediments and pollutants into water bodies. In this study, the hydrodynamics and propagation of gravity currents are investigated using WISE (Width Integrated Stratified Environments), ...
